It has been envisioned making India a USD 5 Trillion economy and a global economic powerhouse by 2025. This is only possible when each section of society is financial literate and come together to achieve common goal. As partner in nation building, the ICAI has continually collaborated with the Government to advance goals of general interest and has taken up a very important initiative in the form of Finance and Tax literacy Drive “Vittiya Gyan – ICAI Ka Ahiyaan”.

Under this programme, the ICAI is reaching out to various stratum of the society to encourage finance and tax literacy in 12 vernacular languages using different tools to ensure that when India becomes a developed nation, it is not just confined in terms of development, but every district, every town, every city, every village of the country is developed and more importantly financial and tax literate. In the year 2023-24, as ICAI celebrates its 75th Foundation Day, Financial and Tax Literacy Drive will be taken as movement of masses and large scale activities are being undertaken to achieve the desired objective.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, viz. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 (Act No. XXXVIII of 1949) for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. The Institute, functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The ICAI is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world, with a strong tradition of service to the Indian economy in the public interest.

The affairs of the ICAI are managed by a Council in accordance with the provisions of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 and the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. The Council constitutes of 40 members of whom 32 are elected by the Chartered Accountants and the remaining 8 are nominated by the Central Government generally representing the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Securities and Exchange Board of India, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and other stakeholders.
